Our Heroes' Tree is a national initiative that gives friends and families of U.S. service members a way to show their appreciation any time of the year.

Seasonal holidays are a popular time to honor the heroes in our hearts, but with Our Heroes' Tree, every day can be a day to celebrate.

The program started in 2005 at the United States Military Academy at West Point and has grown every year since.

Our Heroes' Tree: Honoring Senior Veterans

You are invited to host Our Heroes' Tree in your senior care, senior living, and hospice environments as a unique way to acknowledge and honor the service and sacrifice of former and current members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

To help you engage your residents, families, and staff in Our Heroes' Tree as a meaningful and memorable experience, author Marlene Lee identifies six categories relevant to senior care and hospice, along with distinct aspects of military service and specific activities for the program in the new publication: "Our Heroes' Tree: Honoring Veterans in Senior Care and Hospice Environments."

Hosted in more than 30 states and on U.S. military bases in 10 countries, Our Heroes' Tree was created by Marlene Lee and Stephanie Pickup in 2005 as an inter-generational program that can be enjoyed any day of the year.

Celebrating our Nation’s Military Families!

You have created thousands of decorations and ornaments ("love notes"!) in honor of those who are serving or have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Our Heroes' Tree is a national initiative co-founded in 2005 by Stephanie Pickup, author of The Soldier's Tree, and Marlene Lee, author of The Hero in My Pocket.

Our Heroes' Tree is inclusive of all branches of service, Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve, and all generations.

For families, groups, and organizations, Our Heroes' Tree benefits citizens of all ages:

  • Discover the branches of military service on your families' trees, and among friends, co-workers, and communities

  • Promote appreciation for the service and sacrifice of U.S. service members and their families

  • Honor your heroes of the heart
